AGWA (AgriFood Growth & Water Abundance) and US based, Believer Meats have announced a collaboration to develop capabilities in cultivated meat, with bold plans to transform Abu Dhabi into a global center for food production by 2045 when its expected to contribute Dh90 billion (approx USD24bill) to Abu Dhabi's economy, create over 60,000 new jobs, and attract significant investments.
Believer Meats joins Swiss based plant-based meat producer, NUOS AG who will set up an HQ in Abu Dhabi, leveraging the Emirate's strategic location and resources to further its growth in Europe, North America and the Middle East North African market. NUOS MENA will be a central innovation, production and commercialisation hub to facilitate and manage its major projects.
This collaborations focuses on alternative proteins and cultivated meat to address food security and sustainability challenges.

Believer Meats will establish a regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi to support commercial operations, product manufacturing, and research and development. This initiative aligns with AGWA's mission to tackle food security and water scarcity through innovative technology. The cluster will also focus on alternative proteins, functional ingredients, algae farming, and reverse osmosis membranes while enhancing traditional food and water production.
Believer Meats is pioneering cell-cultivation production technology to produce safe, healthy, and delicious cultivated meat products. The company is building the world's largest cultivated meat production facility in North Carolina, set to be operational by the end of 2024.
In addition to developing production capabilities, AGWA and Believer Meats are exploring the establishment of a Believer Meats Innovation Academy dedicated to sustainable food technologies and talent development. This academy will collaborate with Abu Dhabi-based universities and research centers.
Efforts are also underway to establish regulatory pathways and halal certification standards for cultivated meat products in Abu Dhabi.
