This new show will spotlight products from the plant-based, algae protein, mushroom-based protein, and cell-cultivated meat segments. The event confirms Anuga's commitment to 'Sustainable Growth,' a key theme for the show.

"Alternative proteins are not a short-lived trend, but indeed the future of food," says Jan Philipp Hartmann, Director of Anuga. "A healthy and sustainable supply of proteins is essential for meeting the food requirements of an ever-increasing number of consumers. The market for alternative proteins is driven not only by consumer demand but also by technological innovations. At Anuga Alternatives, we will delve into these developments," says Jan Philipp Hartmann.

Anuga Alternatives will feature over 1,400 companies globally, including more than 70 from Germany, showcasing the expanding range and growing interest in alternative proteins. The event will include an extensive program of webinars, workshops, and speaker sessions focusing on the latest research and technological advancements in the field. Experts from science, business, and environmental organisations will discuss plant-based, fermented, and cell-cultivated protein sources.

The trade show will also address the social aspects of food production, including ethical procurement, biodiversity preservation, and the socio-economic impacts of transitioning to plant-based diets.

The market for plant-based foods is rapidly growing. According to Innova Market Insights, the market for plant-based meat substitutes in Germany alone grew by 7.8% from 2022 to 2023, reaching USD 689 million. The number of product launches also peaked, with a 27% increase in April 2024 compared to the previous year. Own brand companies saw significant growth, with 34% of new meat substitute products being their own brands.

Bastian Mingers, Vice President Food Trade Fairs at Koelnmesse GmbH, says, "Anuga Alternatives is a response to the dynamic development of the plant-based food market. It offers visitors unique insights into this growing industry, helping them stay ahead of tomorrow's food trends."
