With perhaps 1 in 10 New Zealanders living a vegan lifestyle and the country ranking #4 per capita living a vegan lifestyle, it was no wonder the 2023 Auckland vegan truck festival was nothing short of inspirational.
Held in the City Of Sails downtown Victoria Park, an estimated 3000 people turned out under clear blue 24C skies to taste and saviour vegan food offerings from a range of truck, caravan and gazebo operators.

The quite and relaxed vibe merged delightfully with the lack of an aroma of cooked barbecued animal meat along with complete lack of rubbish. Many visitors bringing their own utensils and food containers.
Food ranged from Kumara fries, burgers, pies, doughnuts to even vegan Easter Hot Cross Buns. A vegan beer selection pulled pale ales and IPAs along with sauce sample stations courtesy of Culley's Kitchen. The NZ Vegan Society was also on hand to deal with a myriad of enquiries and sign up new members.
Lines formed soon after the 10am opening time until food finally ran out early in the afternoon.
Organisers said it was great to see so many people out just to sample the vegan food truck offering available around Auckland gathered all in one place for the festival

Organisers were overwhelmed by the turnout which they say bodes well for New Zealand, traditionally a nation of big animal meat eaters.
Same place and perhaps same time next year.
Editors note: The tide is definitely turning!!
