In a stunning victory in the 2024 Official Great Aussie Pie Competition, Forster Bakehouse at Forster on Australia's Mid-North Coast, has been crowned the Best Vegan pie in Australia with their Cauliflower Cashew Mornay Pie. Amidst a contest traditionally dominated by meat-heavy entries, this innovative pie stood out at the event held at Fine Food Australia in Melbourne.


This year's competition spotlighted the growing diversity in Australia's pie scene, showing not only traditional flavours but also gourmet and alternative diet-friendly options. The Cauliflower Cashew Mornay Pie, praised for its rich flavour and creamy texture, represents a significant shift towards inclusive and varied culinary choices in a contest historically ruled by meat-based recipes.

Forster Bakehouse, has been operated by 32 year bakery pro, Daryl Lisle and his wife Lamy since 2015. As a third generation baker/pie maker, Daryl is widely known for his commitment to quality and community-focused ethos. This accolade follows their consistent performance in previous years, where they also secured medals across multiple categories, highlighting their expertise in baking and dedication to pie excellence. This year alone this small 'Little Goliath' in Aussie pie making picked up an astounding 5 Gold medal pies along with 3 Silvers. The Aussie 'Pyney's Pie Review has even awarded Daryl's pies a perfect 5 which in the pie world is no mean feat.
