From NZ to Tokyo as Nutrition from Water Drops Anchor with Japan’s Protein Kingpin

What do you get when you mix Kiwi ingenuity, a splash of seawater, and a solid handshake in Tokyo? The future of protein, apparently.

Portugal-based Kiwi startup Nutrition from Water™ (NXW)  - founded by New Zealander Alex Worker - has just signed a deal with Nissei Kyoeki, one of Japan’s long-standing protein import royalty. Together, they’re launching NXW's Marine Whey, a next-gen protein brewed not from cows, but from the sea. Yep, it's protein. From water.

In a statement bubbling with enthusiasm, Alex Worker says: "Nissei Kyoeki, one of Japan's leading protein importers and distributors, has been a great partner for New Zealand dairy whey in Japan for decades. It's with excitement today Nutrition from Water (NXW) announces this collaboration, to launch and develop the Marine Whey category together."

The announcement follows a milestone moment in Tokyo, where NXW CEO Federico Duarte met with Nissei President Kazuo Kumagai to toast this sea-change in protein supply.

NXW’s Marine Whey taps into the power of microalgae to deliver a clean, complete, allergen-free protein, without the cows, the soy, or the land use guilt. It’s vegan, non-GMO, and all the other labels saying "future-ready".

The move marks a bold step into Asia for NXW and a signal New Zealand’s protein legacy isn’t just about cows anymore. It’s now about clever, clean, water-based nutrition floating well beyond the farm gate.

This isn’t just another alt-protein launch. This is a whole new category.
