Forget clunky kitchen gadgets and over hyped air fryers because scientists at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have just dropped a game-changer - a 3D food printer that prints and cooks your meal at the same time. No more squishy, half-frozen, extruded paste nonsense. This thing means business.

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) 3D Printer/Cooker

Here’s the deal. Most 3D food printers spit out layers of cold, unappetising mush that you have to cook separately, hoping it doesn’t collapse in the oven. But this bad boy? It uses a graphene powered infrared heating system to cook each layer as it prints. Imagine lasagne where the pasta, sauce, and cheese all get the perfect heat treatment in one go. Or a pastry coming out crisp and golden, straight from the printer. That’s where we’re heading.

And it’s not just about convenience, it’s smarter, cleaner, and way more efficient. Traditional ovens burn through 1,000+ watts of power but this thing burns just 14. Plus, say goodbye to bacterial roulette. Infrared heating means fewer nasties lurking in your food, with bacterial growth practically obliterated compared to your average baked or air-fried meal.

The possibilities? Endless. Custom-designed meals in restaurants, ultra-precise nutrition for hospitals, or maybe even a machine at home capable of prepping your favourite dish while you scroll through your email.

Right now, it’s still in development, but let’s be real -this is the kind of tech that changes everything. The days of waiting for your oven to preheat might just be numbered.
