This innovative partnership brings together Superbrewed’s advanced Postbiotic Cultured Protein technology and Fonterra’s extensive expertise in dairy processing and ingredients.

The collaboration is set to address the growing global consumer demand for sustainable, nutrient-dense proteins by creating products blending traditional dairy with cutting-edge biomass protein.

Superbrew Food’s Postbiotic Cultured Protein, recently approved by the U.S. FDA, is a non-GMO, allergen-free bacteria biomass protein praised for its exceptional functionality and nutritional profile.

Fonterra sees this as a perfect complement to their dairy ingredients, allowing the creation of hybrid protein products catering to growing consumer demand for both sustainability and high-quality nutrition.

The partnership will also explore new ways to produce hybrid proteins by fermenting multi-feedstocks, including Fonterra’s lactose permeate, a byproduct of dairy processing. This process aims to convert lactose into a valuable, sustainable protein source, enhancing the nutritional value and sustainability of the final product.

For consumers, this collaboration promises a new generation of hybrid protein products offering the best of both worlds - traditional dairy and the sustainability of biomass-derived proteins. These products are set to deliver a balanced, nutritious alternative aligning with the increasing demand for Earth Friendly food solutions.

Editor comments: We see this as a clear sign Fonterra is becoming committed to forging relationships with unique bespoke protein companies in response to the rapidly changing 'new proteins' landscape. Fonterra already has an agreement to co-develop precision based fermented whey products with Vivici which we previously reported on.
