James May (left) , widely known for his time as a Top Gear presenter, has added a Californian twist to his vegan gin brand, James Gin. Unlike his former colleague Jeremy Clarkson, who ventured into beer, May's latest gin creation aligns with plant-based trends and fully vegan.
The new release, JG 05 California Dreamgin’, is infused with girolle mushrooms and patchouli, capturing the essence of California’s cultural and culinary landscape.

Distilled at Downton Distillery, this gin carries an ABV of 40% and is the first in May's collection to be certified by the Vegan Society, a reflection of the growing demand for ethically sourced products.
The distiller behind the concoction, describes it as a "true umami gin," marrying the light, peppery notes of girolle mushrooms with the deep, earthy aroma of patchouli. Added oregano enhances the herbal profile, balanced by zesty hints from coriander and lemon peel. The unique flavour aims to cater to adventurous gin enthusiasts, while also being rooted in the plant-based movement.
James May's gin range, which includes other inventive options like Asian Parsnip and American Mustard, draws inspiration from his global travels and culinary experiments.
This vegan innovation sets a new standard in the spirits industry, blending ethical considerations with bold, unforgettable tastes, and continues to showcase May's knack for surprising yet delightful combinations.
