Lidl GB says it will more than triple the number of plant-based products in its stores in response to more demand for sustainable food. This follows a robust 12% increase in consumer demand for these options over the past 12-months.

Starting this month, Lidl will begin offering an expanded variety of plant-based foods at select locations, with a full national rollout expected by January 2025. The new additions to the shelves will include a range of plant-based burgers, sausages, mince, and nuggets, all part of Lidl's efforts to cater to the growing consumer appetite for vegetarian and vegan options.
A standout in this new offering is the Vemondo Plant! own-label range, which introduces 28 new items including various tofu products starting at £1.75 and burgers priced from £1.89. This move not only diversifies Lidl's product offerings but also makes plant-based eating more accessible and affordable to a broader segment of customers.

Lidl GB is setting ambitious targets for the future. The supermarket chain plans to increase the sales of plant-based protein items to represent 25% of its total protein sales by 2031. This goal supports Lidl's commitment to not just keeping pace with market trends, but leading them, especially as consumers become more environmentally conscious and seek out alternatives to animal proteins.
In addition to its focus on plant-based meat alternatives, Lidl GB aims to double the proportion of sales from dairy alternatives within the same time frame. This commitment reflects a broader industry shift towards plant-based diets, driven by factors like health considerations, environmental impact, and ethical concerns about animal welfare.
This expansion of Lidl’s plant-based range could be a game-changer for the UK retail sector, potentially setting new standards for the availability and affordability of sustainable food choices across the market.
