New Zealand's, Mamaku Blue, just off the main highway north of Rotorua, has done it again. The family-run blueberry operation, known for squeezing every last drop of goodness from their fruit, has taken the humble blueberry skin, and turned it into a skincare powerhouse - blueberry pomace oil.

That’s right. Instead of letting all the nutrient-rich goodness go to waste, Mamaku Blue worked with Callaghan Innovation to extract oil from blueberry pomace. The result? A natural, omega-6-rich oil already making waves with people who want hydration without the chemical overload.
“I’ve loved using this oil, it helps to retain moisture and is so nourishing on my skin,” says Sophie, one of the early testers. And she’s onto something. The oil is packed with linoleic acid (an omega-6 essential fatty acid), a skin barrier booster that helps tackle redness, acne, and irritation. The human body can’t produce linoleic acid on its own, so getting it through diet or skincare is a no-brainer.
This isn’t Mamaku Blue’s first foray into blueberry research. They’ve teamed up with Massey University in the past to explore the health benefits of blueberries, juice, and powder. Now, their focus has shifted to skincare, and they’re proving the fruit’s benefits go beyond what you put in your mouth.
The science backs it up, too. Studies show that omega-6 fatty acids can strengthen the skin’s barrier, lock in hydration, and even help with inflammatory skin conditions. And since this oil is made from what would otherwise be discarded blueberry skins, it’s a win for both skin health and sustainability.
Natural, effective, and born from Kiwi ingenuity, Mamaku Blue’s blueberry pomace oil is giving skincare fans something to get excited about.
