In what's seen as a powerful collaboration, Relais & Châteaux has teamed up with the international Slow Food movement to launch the ‘Plant The Future’ campaign. This initiative aims to inspire a global shift towards plant-rich diets, involving both restaurants and home cooks worldwide.

Relais & Châteaux, a global network of 580 luxury hotels and restaurants, is marking its eighth partnership with Slow Food through this campaign. The 'Plant The Future' initiative will see chefs from these properties adopting nine key principles to push the boundaries of fine dining with plant-based ingredients.

The campaign's goal is to highlight the innovative and nutritional power of vegetables, legumes, pulses, whole grains, cereals, algae, nuts, seeds, mushrooms, seaweed, and fermented foods. By raising awareness about the detrimental effects of factory farming and intensive fishing, the initiative seeks to promote the lower environmental footprint of plant-rich diets.

“By featuring plant-rich menus alongside animal proteins sourced from sustainable practices, our chefs can demonstrate that fine dining can be both flavorful and eco-friendly,” says Mauro Colagreco, Vice President of Chefs at Relais & Châteaux. The network's 376 Michelin-starred chefs, including 40 green star holders, are at the forefront of this culinary paradigm shift.

The benefits of plant-rich diets are significant. For instance, producing 100g of legume protein emits only 0.9kg of greenhouse gases compared to 35.5kg for the same amount of beef protein, according to the United Nations. This shift not only supports human health by providing essential nutrients but also respects animal welfare and the environment.

Edward Mukiibi, President of Slow Food, stresses the urgent need to address climate and public health crises through dietary changes. “Adopting a plant-rich diet is a powerful way to transform our food system, reduce the impacts of factory farming, and improve overall ecological sustainability,” says Edward Mukiibi.

This campaign represents a critical step in the global movement towards sustainable eating, showcasing how plant-based ingredients can lead to healthier, more Earth Friendly lifestyles.
