A coffee revolution is brewing!
MAD Foods and biotech innovator TurtleTree have teamed up to launch a first-of-its-kind plant-based enriched vegan-friendly lactoferrin coffee, a protein known for its health benefits. Set to hit shelves in mid-2025, this oat milk-based drink will add a new dimension the ready-to-drink coffee market.
Lactoferrin, a protein traditionally sourced from dairy, plays a role in supporting immune health, improving gut health, and regulating iron levels. Until now, it’s been a rare and expensive ingredient, largely reserved for products like infant formula. But thanks to TurtleTree’s pioneering precision fermentation technology, lactoferrin is finally accessible in a sustainable, animal-free form.

This vegan-certified lactoferrin, dubbed LF+, is making its debut in MAD Foods’ latest creation: a functional coffee drink blending creamy oat milk with a dose of cutting-edge science. The product promises to do more than just provide a caffeine boost—it’s designed to support consumers’ overall well-being.
The beverage’s launch will focus on markets in Singapore and Australia, with plans to expand further. Each can will proudly highlight the health-boosting properties of lactoferrin, bringing science-backed benefits front and centre for shoppers eager to make informed choices.
A number of innovative companies in the alternative protein sector are turning their attention to lactoferrin. Among them are Australia-based All G Foods and Noumi, US ventures Helaina and De Novo Foodlabs, California’s Triplebar Bio (partnering with FrieslandCampina), and New Zealand's Daisy Lab. Daisy Lab has recently expanded its focus to include lactoferrin, aiming to boost investment outcomes while navigating the steep expenses and scalability hurdles associated with precision fermentation.
