Colombo based, Silk Investments is stepping up production of its range of Jackfruit and Mushroom based products to meet the growing local and regional demand for what the company describes as 'clean-sustainable' plant-based consumables.
Selling under its PlantBased brand, the company's impetus behind its jackfruit and mushroom burger, nugget and 'vegan chicken' products is 100% on environmental and 'social' sustainability.

Targeting both vegans and flexitarians, Silk Investments CEO, Sahan Bakmiwewa says a major part of the company's investment is in 'the power of people'.
'We have developed a proprietary measurement device called the 'Silk Social' index which accurately gauges the immediate benefits to Sri Lankan farmers supplying our purpose built 100% vegan & organic factory at Matale, 140 kilometres from the country's capital', says Sahan Bakmiwewa

"Economic benefits can be gauged from direct employment in our factory as well as families able to afford to send a child to school. The company also has a Sri Lankan wide 'One for One' program operating which means for every PlantBased burger, nugget or chicken 'we sell, a lunch pack is be donated to rural schools in need', says Sahan Bakmiwewa.
The PlantBased range is currently sold throughout Sri Lanka via a handful of leading supermarket chains.
'We have consolidated our year round Jackfruit supply and now growing our own mushroom requirements so we are well placed to position the PlantBased brand in both the Singapore and Australian markets. Our research shows both regional locations have growing vegan and flexitarian consumers', says Sahan Bakmiwewa .
Silk Investments PlantBased brand also underpins a number of other vegan products: Coconut Yogurt, Oat Milk, Rice Milk, Plant-based Cheese and Kombucha.
