Steakholder Foods Partners with ITRI to Launch 3D Printed Meat Alternatives into Asia

In a significant move promising to enhance the Taiwanese food industry, Isreali based Steakholder Foods , has announced a strategic partnership with the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan. The collaboration will see the introduction of Steakholder Foods’ innovative 3D printing technology and plant-based products specially tailored to Taiwanese cuisine.


Steakholder Foods, at the global forefront of developing 3D-printed, plant-based meat alternatives, aims to provide Taiwan with the capability to produce high-quality meat substitutes independently. These products are not only expected to excel in texture and flavour but are also designed to align with the local dietary preferences, which could significantly reduce the region's reliance on traditional meat sources.

This partnership will leverage ITRI's extensive research capabilities and understanding of the local market, enhancing the development and commercialisation of these 'Earth Friendly' food solutions. The collaboration will focus on deploying Steakholder Foods’ commercial-scale 3D printers and bio-ink premixes across Taiwan, working with top local food companies to scale the technology.


Arik Kaufman, CEO of Steakholder Foods, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting its potential to reduce environmental footprints and enhance food diversity in Taiwan. "By integrating our advanced 3D printing technology with ITRI's robust research infrastructure, we are poised to introduce a range of plant-based foods catering to local tastes while addressing global sustainability challenges," Arik Kaufman says.


Shih-Chi Lee, Deputy General Director of ITRI Central Region Campus, also commented on the collaboration's potential to push the boundaries of food technology and sustainability. "Our joint efforts with Steakholder Foods will lead to significant advancements in the food sector, expanding our food product portfolio and contributing to global food security", says Shih-Chi Lee.


Streakholder Foods currently has bio-ink products for producing 'beef steak', 'white fish' and 'eel'.
