Vegan Smoked Sausage with Szechuan Sauce Supreme Winner at NZ Deli Awards

The New Zealand Vegan Society has announced the winners of its sixth annual Vegan Sausage and Deli Meats Awards. The Smoked Sausage with Szechuan Sauce from the “Whole Perfect Food” brand by Blissful claimed top spot as the Supreme Winner. Judges praised its "fantastic special flavour, engaging texture, and moisture, making it a perfect companion for stir-fried noodles and rice."

The annual event drew entries for an array of new categories, reflecting the expanding variety and quality of plant-based deli options. "With the rising cost of living, eating plants will always be a good thing, providing healthier foods with lower emissions, helping to look after our planet," says Claire Insley, spokesperson for The Vegan Society.


However the biggest accolade goes to Plan*t taking out four category awards and arguably the most successful brand:


  • Supreme:  Runner Up to Supreme- Southern Fried Chick*n (Plan*t)

  • Speciality Sausage:  Runner up Tasty Sage & Onion (Plan*t)

  • Breakfast Sausage:  Winner Tasty Sage & Onion (Plan*t)

  • Innovative:  Winner Southern Fried Chick*n (Plan*t)

Judges including Jasbir “Jazz” Kaur, a multi-award-winning executive chef, and Tom Sainsbury, a sausage-loving comedian, put their taste buds to the test, assessing the entries based on taste, presentation, and adaptability in various dishes. (Judges shown below: Source- Vegan Society)

Other highlights from the awards include special recognition for the Vegan Prawn by Blissful's “Forever Health Food” brand. The event also celebrated winners in categories such as Hot Served ‘Meat’, Hotdogs and Sausage Rolls, Specialty Sausage, and more, demonstrating the diversity and innovation in the plant-based food sector.


This year's awards not only highlighted the best in taste but also emphasised the significant role plant-based eating plays in sustainability and health, aligning with The Vegan Society's mission to promote a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle through delicious alternatives to traditional meats.
