Veganuary 2025 has officially wrapped up, leaving behind a trail of record-breaking participation, corporate collaborations, and culinary innovation. The annual campaign, which encourages people to try a vegan diet for January, has seen its biggest success to date, with an estimated 25.8-million people getting involved along with more businesses, celebrities, and cities getting on board than ever before.

This year, more than 228 countries and territories took part, showcasing the campaign’s truly global reach. Over 40 major employers, including EY, LUSH, and Omnidian, joined the Veganuary Workplace Challenge, encouraging their employees to adopt a plant-based diet for the month.

Meanwhile, the food industry responded in kind, with over 2,100 new vegan products and menu items launching to meet growing demand, including innovative offerings like BBQ Pork Bao Buns, vegan truffle pizzas, and pineapple teriyaki balls.

One of the most notable shifts this year has been the increasing interest from China. While Veganuary has historically been driven by Western countries, plant-based eating is gaining momentum in China as concerns over health, sustainability, and food security grow. The rise of domestic plant-based brands and government initiatives to reduce meat consumption are aligning with Veganuary’s mission, making it an attractive challenge for Chinese consumers.

International plant-based companies are also expanding their presence in the region, launching products tailored to local tastes, such as plant-based dumplings and vegan pork alternatives. With China’s flexitarian movement on the rise, the growing participation in Veganuary signals a broader shift in dietary habits.

Celebrity backing has also played a key role in this year’s success. Hollywood heavyweight Woody Harrelson, UK Olympic rowing champion Imogen Grant, and House of the Dragon star Bethany Antonia all lent their voices to the movement, reinforcing the health and environmental benefits of plant-based eating. WWE Hall of Famer Amy Dumas encouraged participation, stating, “It’s so much easier than people imagine to go vegan these days”

With participation growing year after year, the impact of Veganuary is no longer confined to January. The campaign’s organisers are already planning year-round initiatives to keep the momentum going. If this year’s record-breaking numbers are any indication, plant-based eating is no longer a niche trend—it’s a global movement that’s here to stay.
