WNWN’s Cocoa-Free Chocolate Takes the Crown in Häagen-Dazs Start-Up Innovation Challenge

WNWN Food Labs, the first to bring cocoa-free chocolate to market, clinched the top spot by winning 'Best Demo' in the Häagen-Dazs Start-Up Innovation Challenge. The competition, organized by EIT Food, the world's largest food innovation community, aimed to address key challenges in environmental sustainability and health.

The victory for WNWN in this prestigious challenge showcases their groundbreaking contribution to the industry.

During the final phase of the competition held at the Arras Technical Center in Arras, France, WNWN presented its developments to Häagen-Dazs, a brand of General Mills, in the category of ice cream with the lowest carbon footprint. The company emerged triumphant from a pool of over 160 start-ups, capturing the attention of the judges with its innovative approach.

WNWN's winning demonstration showcased nine preparations using its cocoa-free chocolate, including three variations of choc hazelnut ice cream. From treats encased in WNWN's smooth vegan milk choc/hazelnut shell with choc chips inside, to tubs and bite-sized pieces, their creations delighted the taste buds of the panel. This remarkable feat of replacing conventional chocolate with their environmentally friendly alternative resonated strongly with the judges.

"The numbers don't lie: chocolate itself generates more emissions per kilogram than dairy, so switching just that one ingredient dramatically reduces ice cream's overall carbon footprint without requiring any other production changes," said WNWN CEO Ahrum Pak.

The headline-winning concept of cocoa-free chocolate was at the core of their winning pitch, impressing the judges with its potential impact on carbon emissions in the industry.

WNWN's victory in the Häagen-Dazs Start-Up Innovation Challenge is a testament to the company's pioneering work and dedication to sustainability. Among more than 160 start-ups from Europe and partner countries, WNWN and nine other finalists were recognized for their potential to revolutionize the food industry. This achievement establishes WNWN as a front-runner in tackling critical challenges and paving the way for a greener future.

Central to WNWN's success is its proprietary fermentation process that transforms widely available plant-based ingredients like cereals and legumes into cocoa-free chocolate. This innovative chocolate alternative possesses the same taste, melting properties, snapping texture, and baking qualities as conventional chocolate. By seamlessly replacing traditional chocolate formats currently used by General Mills, WNWN proves the viability and superiority of their cocoa-free chocolate.

In addition to its environmental benefits, WNWN's cocoa-free chocolate outshines conventional chocolate in terms of health-conscious attributes. It is vegan, caffeine-free, gluten-free, palm oil-free, and lower in sugar compared to similar products. WNWN's cocoa-free chocolate offers a guilt-free indulgence for consumers concerned about their well-being and the environment.

Moreover, the impact of WNWN's cocoa-free chocolate on the chocolate supply chain cannot be overlooked. An internal lifecycle analysis conducted by WNWN revealed that their dark chocolate emits 80-90% less greenhouse gases than conventional chocolate. It also helps mitigate issues related to deforestation, habitat destruction, and unfair labor practices associated with traditional cocoa production. With climate change threatening cocoa crops and experts predicting potential shortages and increased prices, WNWN's cocoa-free chocolate provides a sustainable and resilient solution for the future.

The headline-worthy achievement of winning 'Best Demo' cements WNWN's commitment to providing delicious, sustainable, and socially responsible indulgences for consumers worldwide.
